Fertilizer vs Inoculant
First thing we need to know is, what does a plant need to grow ? What is conventional agriculture?
All plants need at least 42 elements to be healthy and productive. The question of course is how to provide those elements. Fertilizers provide major nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium ( N, P, K } , as well as some minor, and trace elements. The use of fertilizer at best causes an imbalance in plants, such as : short roots in turf grass, and bitter taste in vegetables. The most negative effects include : death of bacteria, fungi, nematodes, arthropods, worms, birds, pets, children, and you. We call this conventional agriculture, and landscape practice. To be honest, fertilizer does increase yields, in the form of profits for fertilizer companies, applicators, and maintenance companies. What is balanced soil?
Inoculants are used to reestablish the soil life that provide all the necessary elements directly from the soil. All soils contain the elements plants need, just not in an available form, that is the job of soil organisms. Side effects of balanced soils include : healthy plants that don't require pesticides, healthy animals and people not exposed to agricultural runoff, and residue. Soil life also creates better soil structure, slows leaching of nutrients, and allows water to reach the roots.
